2.5 External Hard Drive Enclosure With Power Supply

[Black] I had an old 2.5 hard drive that I had salvaged out of a failed SeaGate enclosure. The problem with this hard drive was that it was an odd size, 15mm tall, so I was extremely limited in my choices for enclosures, and this seemed to be one of the only ones that could accommodate it. This little enclosure is great. It's constructed fully out of aluminum, no flimsy plasticky parts in here. Very easy to install, hard drive fits perfectly, and sits very secure inside the enclosure. I don't feel worried picking the thing up, throwing it into a bag and taking it place to place. When it's all set up I get very fast read and write speeds as promised, limited only by your hard drive RPM or your SSD rating.

[8 to 90%] Using the enclosure for external drive on MacBook Pro 13 unibody. Wanted the Firewire 800 speed for an external bootable drive. Found it best to follow instructions of NOT screwing the hard drive down to the heat sink(even though there were enough screws in the package to do so). As it turned out two of the drives I was using were bad so it was easy to just open the end-cap and slide the I/O board with hard drive out to replace then slide it back in. The two end-caps (one permanent the other has screws to hold it in place) hold parts inside fairly well with a 2.5 5400 rpm SATA hard drive. This case is not intended to be water-proof, shock-proof or dust-proof etc. Just an enclosure for an external hard drive best used laying flat and still. Happy with the fact that package includes USB 2 to USB 3 cable as well as Firewire 800 cable. device is capable of daisy-chaining Fireire 800 devices since it has two ports. Included is a pleather carrying case. Has a tiny on-off switch. Case is see-through clear plastic with reasonably thick construction. The blue LED when turned on is a good visual cue not to shake or move the enclosure as the hard-drive is on and spinning. Careful not to tighten side screws to hold the end-cap in place is they may strip or crack the plastic piece.

Without the external power supply, other types of USB hubs do not provide enough power to keep external drives up and running--drives connected other, buss-powered hubs often turn off, and become unavailable in Windows. No such issue with this one. This is also impressively well made. The sleek metal enclosure, power switch and USB ports all inspire confidence that this will have a long life. I have the 7-port version of this, and it has worked flawlessly for almost 2 years of constant service. [Micro-USB Male] Cables included with 2.5 drive enclosure were too short for use on my workstation, they didn't reach to desktop. 3 foot gets me there, much handier.
