[Intel Iris Xe ] I ordered this PC not long ago and ended up getting a 4tb hard drive and 32gb of ddr4 ram and am absolutely IN LOVE with it. The customer service at BH photo and video was outstanding and I kid you not I got my PC within 2 days of ordering. I was on a time crunch and ordered it for my birthday and it arrived days before. Very grateful for how this company operates and I've actually been suggesting it to my friends that are in the market as well.

[3840 x 2160] I am a biased user when it comes to hard disks and use only Seagate manufactured units. Both the 4TB and the 7200 rpm 2TB, 3.5 versions have performed well. These two units was my first 3.5 purchase since the appearance of laptops, other purchased units were 2.5, replaceable for internal drive if needed. The price of the 3.5 4TB unit, for an external drive, was why I did not buy a more expensive 2.5 drive. Mind you I do miss the performance of the old 2.5 models with 4 GB of solid state cache; not seen in the catalog recently.

[10 TB] I use this hard drive in an external Thermaltake USB3 dock for creating my offsite backups. The 4TB is perfect for my system configuration and the drive is fast and quiet.

[Bus Powered] I am very happy with the LaCie 4TB External Hard Drive. Its very easy to use and I love that its portable. Exactly what I needed to store all of my photographs.

[Bus Powered] I needed another external USB SSD to handle all of the raw image files I need to work on. I use it primarily as a vehicle for taking my raw files on the road and, when I am traveling, as a means for storing those files. I bought my first Crucial external SSD (the X6 version) for the same purpose and, when I ran out of space (it has a 2 TB capacity), I decided I needed a larger drive that was faster, if that was possible - so I bought my first 4TB XT10 Pro drive. Well, after finding that it's a real screamer and filling that drive with raw files, I decided I needed another one, so here I am, with the second 4TB drive I'm now reviewing. So, what do I like about my two 4TB X10 drives? They are FAST! And they're compact. With their USB 3.2/C connections, I can have both connected to either my workstation or my laptop at the same time, giving me 8TB of extra capacity, especially important on my laptop, which has only a 1TB internal SSD. And, when I'm out shooting, 50GB of raw files isn't uncommon. How fast are these drives? Fast enough so I can edit raw files on my 14-core i7 laptop rapidly without a single second of slow performance. While I'm totally satisfied with my Crucial SSDs, I wish they were larger. Frankly, when those larger drives are available, I'll be buying them. If anyone is wondering what I'm doing with my 2TB X6 SSD, I'm using it for JPG files. So, when I travel, I carry my three external SSDs with me.

[ SATA SSD ] Be sure to avoid NVMe drives as I missed that and had to scourge eBay for a 4TB SATA drive (oops). Bought this to be used on a 21 day safari trip to Africa for the following reasons: - won't be able to reliably charge my laptop - can't afford the 4.7lb weight of my laptop - cheaper than having 2 sets of CF/SD cards for the entire trip - faster than using a phone to transfer between SD and ssd - works with external ssd's (which I already own) - USB-C powered so no extra cables needed to power it I have only tested it initially with backing up some files from a CFExpress card to an external SSD and the copy and verify method was plenty fast for my needs (copied 17GB in ~1 minute and verified in another ~2 minutes). I assume it will be a touch faster writing to the internal drive but will have to wait while my 4TB drive ships from Italy. I will be bringing this along with me for any future trips I take without my laptop as well as any trips where I may be in remote areas or without access to power for long periods of time. Only con I can think of is that the device doesn't work with NVMe drives, which just means you have a smaller pool to pick from, especially when you want more than 2TB. Even still I would heavily recommend this device to anyone looking for a portable backup solution.

[Bus Power] When you have a 4TB Mac laptop and want Time Machine backups that keep old versions of files and folders around, you need a backup drive bigger than 4TB. This 8TB drive, formatted with APFS and encrypted, does the trick. Old fashioned mechanical disk drives take forever for Time Machine backups. Since Time Machine runs hourly, it's nice having a drive that can backup everything quickly. This was an expensive solution, but it is so nice knowing I can revert to an old version and keep a lot of old versions of stuff around. The peace of mind is a big payoff. This may sound weird, but I mainly use my laptop at home, sitting on my couch with on my laptop - of all places, sitting on my lap. I just taped this drive to the lid and plugged it in to a TB port and it backs up while I work. Yes, it looks ugly as sin, but I mainly look at the front of my with the screen and keyboard. I don't sit staring at the laptop lid with an SSD taped to it. Besides, there's nothing prettier than a properly backed up disk.

[2.5"] I used this drive to clone a laptop hard drive to a solid state drive. Worked well.

[Silver / Black] When I upgrade my laptop hard drive I put old drive in this case.
