[Cardioid] This mic sounds very nice for vocals, plucked string instruments, and woodwind instruments (at least that's what I've tried it on). I highly recommend it!

[1.06 lb] Really good phones...especially for the price. I use them for some general listening, but mostly I'm using them while tracking acoustic instruments in my studio. Fairly long cable and a nice screw on 1/4 adaptor. These things are very efficient compared to the Audio Technia phones I've been using...much louder at the same volume. Comfortable too!

[Side Address] One of the best (some would say the best...) microphone in the business, particularly for vocals and lower sound level instruments (acoustic guitar, flute, etc...). Extremely sensitive, very low noise. Picks up the tiniest detail. The switchable polar pattern, integrated low cut filter and 10 dB attenuation pad means you can use them for anything in any situation, couple of switches and you are done. Just did a simultaneous recording with my Schoeps on a flute and these sounded even better, if that was at all possible. More velvet and refinment in the mid tones. You could immediately tell why they are unsurpassed on voice. If you can afford it and don't mind how large they are, this is the quintessential studio mic you need in your arsenal.

[0.6 lb] I've used this on pickups from a number of acoustic instruments: violins, mandolins, guitars, etc. It always has a clean sound and the features I need to enhance the quality (if necessary) like a ground/lift switch, impedance switch for the input (instrument/amp) and a filter switch. Plus it's passive so I don't have to worry about phantom power. I love it!

[Black] Amazing clarity on acoustic instruments and vocals. Recommended by one of the best sound engineers I know. A great addition to any home recording setup, podcast, and live performance situations where richness and full-spectrum sound are needed.

This is the one if you are a audio expert and want the most natural and pure sound for acoustic instruments. This things sounds like should be $5,000! I just found the best personal PA of my career ....and I have owned many

[Omnidirectional] Using these for measurement as well as acoustic instruments. Great quality, the craftsmanship of Earthworks shows in these fantastically matched pair. Also a great price if you are a student/educator.

[Boundary] I was looking for a decent mic to use with my iPad for field recording of acoustic instruments and voices. I run a old-time acoustic jam and the iPad allows me to do minor editing on the spot. Had been using conventional xlr mics patched in through the earphone/mic jack, but was getting noise from the jack and background hum which was unacceptable. In shopping around, the MXL Tempo was the best value of mics which work with the iPad camera connection kit USB adapter. The mic works as advertised, right out of the box. No hum, even at high input levels, which means that instruments don't have to be right up on the mic, potentially bumping into it. The on- board earphone jack is handy, but the normal earphone jack on the iPad gives the best proof of recording quality since it is the true output. All around good product. MXL has a winner.
