[9 VDC, 50 mA] I got the last one in stock (time to reorder, B&H!) and I can see why... the Mel9 pedal adds a completely new vibe to any electric guitar setup. It's very dynamic and responsive, only slightly losing track with very soft notes. Send the dry out to one amp, and the effect out to another (or the sound board) and your sound palette gets very big very quickly. Like everyone else probably did, I immediately dialed in the flute sound and learned Strawberry Fields Forever, but it doesn't stop there. Strings, cello, orchestra and choir sounds are super-fun and very authentic - even down to the warbly tape sound. One thing I'm considering is putting an EQ pedal on Mel9 as its sounds can be a little harsh in the midrange. Dial that back, add some reverb, set the attack and decay at about 1 o'clock, and you have a string pad like keyboard players have always enjoyed - at a fraction of the cost of MIDI guitar synth. Play around with pickup settings too, as the effect sound definitely responds differently to neck vs. bridge pickups. Playing speed is also a factor... most of the sounds take a little time to bloom, so staccato, rapid picking probably won't let the sounds fully develop. But for adding a huge layer and vintage texture to your sound, the Mel9 is where it's at. I can't wait to try it on bass guitar too. This one will be used a lot.

[Black / Red] I use it to toggle the effects on and off (not doable from the front panel) so I have a pedal for each effect and one left over to be the sustain pedal. The Prophecy has a dedicated jack on the back for this pedal. It's great.

[3.155 lb] I purchased this foot pedal to pause a youtube clip as I try to play along to bass tablature. This works perfectly for this purpose. Much better to use a foot pedal than to stop playing each time I needed to pause the youtube video. Quite simple to set up, and the online support is top-notch to boot.

[Cardioid] I have not had a chance to use the KSM8 extensively, but I was very impressed with the balanced tone. In the studio, I used it direct-in and almost forgot that I wasn't using EQ. When live, for my voice I needed to drop off some bass, and give the 1khz a bump up, and a smaller bump ahead of it, because I like air. But, yes, it has minimal proximity effect, but just enough to feel like you can eat the mic and get some power without spiking the bass. But be advised at first I was not sure if I would like it, because I was so used to using an SM58, that I kind of missed the proximity effect, which is a valid effect!... but this thing is a different animal, and I am getting used to it now and it makes alot of sense. With an SM58, I always felt like I had to artificially manipulate how I sing in order for the vocal to come out the way I want to hear it. When I first tried the KSM8, I was totally oversinging, and feeling slightly anxious because the mic wouldnt respond to my usual way of singing in an SM58. WIth the KSM8, I feel like I can sing more naturally (as if I were singing unplugged without any mic)... I would say it is definitely not the same as no mic, and I still have to watch my sibilance a bit, but especially plosives when close to the mic, but it's way easier to control that an SM58 which always requires a heightened state of awareness to ensure that you are aligned correctly and twisting your diction enough to come out of the PA cleanly and as desired. The plosive issue seems to disappear when I pull off the mic. When in the studio, the KSM8 reminded me of the EV635A/B which I had recently used to record poetry, as it is also a mic made for the human voice, and requires minimal EQ.... I am not a Microphone master, but to my ear, the EV635 and KSM8 had a similar flat EQ suited for voice, with a little bit of sizzle in the high end. Highly recommend this mic.
