Best Large Diaphragm Condenser Vocals Microphone

[1.905 lb] Bought it and using it as an alternative large diaphragm condenser microphone for vocal and acoustic recording. Definitely a difference in character of sound and quality as compared to staple SM 58 Shure. Good with details and such. One slight gripe may be the limited peaking capacity. the -10dB pad is there but I personally don't believe that I should be using it most of the time. Loud recording applications may feel some limitations, however its value to performance ratio is a definite plus. Good well rounded function and use so far! If you're using it in the home studio make sure you have some isolation proofing done b/c it will pick up the echos. (and also thin window pane means you'll get car traffic noise picked up in this thing - very sensitive!)

[Mono] I have an old original EV PL 76A electret condenser microphone. It is still one of the best sounding, small diaphragm, condenser microphones from the early 70's. Originally it had an internal foam pop filter built into the inside of the protective grille cover over the diaphragm element. Over the years this foam filter dried out and fell apart. I use this microphone quite a bit for voiceover work and I needed to replace the foam. I looked everywhere for a replacement. I finally checked B&H for generic pop filters. I was surprised to see that B&H actually had the large over the outside grey pop filter made by EV as an accessory for this microphone. I bought it immediately. It fits perfectly, looks great, the price was right and does exactly what a wind screen/pop filter is supposed to do. Thanks B&H for always having what I need.

[7 x 4.7 x 2.8"] Years ago I had a large diaphragm condenser mic custom upgraded for my voice. I never could get it to sound as good as I needed. After plugging it in the SSL 2 it's fantastic. Click on the 4K boost and it's a sound that sets it apart from everything else. I use it mostly for commercial VoiceOver and video audio. Wish I had it years ago.

[Closed-Back] Good, general purpose large diaphragm condenser. It is gold vapor deposited on the diaphragm, but it's no C-414, or Shure, for that matter. However, for the price, it will get you started. I bought this mic to match up with a GXL2200 I already had so I'd have a matching pair. I use this to pick up choir groups, pianos, etc. in a live-sound environment. It doesn't seem to have the output the pricier mics have, but it's also $800 - $1000 cheaper - there's the trade-off. So far I've been able to make up for it with the gain knob. With all that said, the overall sound quality is great and noise floor low. It should work fine for just about any application.

[Mono] I researched many lower cost, large diaphragm condensers and heard Ken Callait recommend the SM27. I planned to purchase it myself, but my wife bought it for me as a Christmas gift, and I've already had the chance to use it on a variety of sources. It is clear and pristine sounding. It works very well on percussion elements, acoustic guitars, and works well for certain types of vocals. I'd find it a little too clean and pretty sounding for rock vocals or anything where an indie vibe is the aim, but if clarity and pure translation are what you want, this mic really delivers. The packaging is nice (I got the version with the shockmount and velveteen case), and it's obviously of solid build quality. Well worth the price tag.

[Windscreen] This microphone is incredible. I have many more expensive large diaphragm condensers that I haven't touched since buying this from B&H. Also, it looks awesome, and gets plenty of compliments in my studio. It's crazy to be able to compare a $250 microphone to others that cost 10 times more - but you can with the Aston Origin!

[0.255 lb] Very well designed USB microphone with versatile inputs and operation. I am a microphone junkie, and I build my own microphones from components, modifying and improving circuits, for custom performance, and I LIKE this microphone as it comes right out of the box. The controls and extra audio/instrument input is useful and the headphone output sounds good with zero latency. WELL MADE, DURABLE and heavy, this one is built to last . The solid, heavy base minimizes or eliminates self-noise, resonance and vibration. The original GTrack was excellent, and this updated Pro model is even better, with larger diaphragm capsule and improved audio circuit. I have a large number of microphones, including hand-built large diaphragm condensers - but the GTrack stays connected to my computer for speech voice over and speech recognition applications.

[Solid-State] As a voice over artist, I have used this amazing microphone.  The new large diaphragm parallels the 87 series and offers an amazing depth of range.  Whether close up, or at a distance, the TLM 103 is superior to nearly every other mic in this price range.  Love it.
