[Black] I had been printing shipping labels on sticker paper, which would never line up to the top edge, so I had to cut them out of the middle of the paper. It was a pain and a waste. Now I press print and the QL-1100 is all like, "I got this" and shoots it out in two seconds. It was super easy for me to set it up. I have a Dell computer. I'm not technically savvy and it was a snap. I love, love, love this printer. I had been on the fence about buying a thermal printer, and I'm kicking myself for waiting this long.

[Standard] [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had a serious paper jam in my HP Laser jet Pro M227. Printer Display and App "manage your device" kept telling me to remove the Laser Cartridge and clear jam from the top. But, I could not grab enough of the paper to free it. When I went to the tech support chat I learned about the door on the back of the printer. That was not obvious but it allowed me to clear the jam. Also this saved me a trip of lugging my printer to the computer store . Thank you !!

[Color] This is an excellent Laser Printer for the Home Office and small business. It has easy load paper tray, easy to get to ink toner cartridge, and I really like the flat bed scanner and copier for quick work for copies or scan to pdf. It can be hooked up to ethernet on home network or usb direct to computer. Great size and doesn't take up a lot of space.

[30.5 lb] As a self-employed writer, editor, desktop publisher, and writing teacher, I need a B&W laser printer for printing large quantities of drafts, and I hate having to add paper to the tray. When my workhorse LaserJet 4050 finally became unusable, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find a B&W laser printer with a large tray at a reasonable price. I went with the M501, even though it's overkill for the quantity I print, because a 550-sheet tray came standard. It's also super fast. I occasionally need to print 2-sided, and the auto-duplexing is fabulous — wish I'd gotten that years ago. The footprint is exactly the same as the 4050, and it's not even as tall. I love the printer, but I knocked a point off of performance for a couple minor annoyances -- every so often, the printer thinks it's out of paper when it's not (something the 4050 never, ever did), and I have to open and close the tray. I also find it harder to load paper. And when I use the auto-duplexing, pages sometimes push other pages out of the output tray. I finally figured out that a little plastic piece that flips up at the end of the output tray is (I guess) intended to keep the pages in the tray, but that piece is not identified in the drawings of the printer and not mentioned anywhere in the manual I downloaded (since, of course, nothing comes with a manual anymore). (There's at least one other part on the printer that is not identified anywhere, and even though I apparently don't need to do anything with it, it still drives me nuts not knowing what it is or does.)

[Luster] The paper is nice, thick paper, useful for covers or other applications where you want a professional thicker paper. It doesn't come with printing instructions, but with laser printers, when using coated paper (such as this photo quality paper or DVD labels) you must set the printer to 'coated/thick' which causes the paper to travel through the printer at a slower speed. Toner is tiny specs of plastic which are picked up electrostatically by the drum and baked onto the paper by the fuser. I don't know how to explain it exactly, but for whatever reason, when using coated paper, if the paper travels through at the speed of plain paper, the toner will not bake on well, and will 'bubble' up and crumble off. The slower speed takes care of that by giving it more time to heat and adhere to the paper. I think HP should print this on the packaging; you can waste much paper until you figure this out. (I've seen other brands that didn't have these instructions either. I don't know why, but it seems to be more common for instructions to be printed on inkjet paper than laser paper.)
