[5] This Tripod and Gimbal Head is amazing. This is my 1st Gimbal head, and with only using for a very short while, 2 weeks, I can say it's a keeper. The rotation with my Nikon 200-500 lens is as smooth as silk. I have a L-bracket for my second camera so I can easily make the switch without changing heads on the tripod. I'm Still getting use to the legs on the tripod, my 1st tripod with the twist legs. I am finding it a little harder to carry from spot to spot due to the head being larger, but I'm sure I will adjust to it. Just takes time to know how to position it on my shoulder. I hang a sandbag on it when I'm shooting birds in my garden or I can hang my backpack on it when elsewhere. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, especially for tracking birds.

[Arca-type] ...a situation you couldn't cover with the configurartion flexibility built into this tripod. Includes bubble levels both on the leg assembly and the camera plate. Another useful feature is that the camera mounts to a removable plate so you can quickly slide the camera & plate into, or out of, the tripod head with the flip of a locking lever--no screwing around! Nice, smooth pan & tilt action for moving image work, too! Bracket for head tube can be rotated 180 degrees.

[Yes] The head is supplied with the LONG plate, which makes it impossible to change the battery of an XA20 without removing the camera from the tripod, then unscrewing the plate from the camera. I don't like the thought of doing that in the field. I have ordered the short plate and assume that will eliminate the problem, but that's an extra expense!THE GOAL: A LIGHTWEIGHT SETUP ... This head with the XA20 (handle attached), a Manfrotto 535 carbon fiber video tripod, a Sennheiser shotgun mike with K6 powering module, an LCD hood, a lens hood, and an Auray shock mount weighs in at just 11-1/4 pounds. My old Bogen tripod and head alone weigh two pounds more than that!! I am pleased.The head works fine based on preliminary tests. Just what I expected. Just what I need ... except for the plate part.
