[Atdec] Lots of slides to digitize. This is a siimple device: a digital camera inside a box that simply takes a photo of the color slide! The biggest problem now is simply cleaning the slide before scanning (photographing) it.

[Yes] I thought I was going to have to throw away my slide scanner box, because parts are to find. This hard to find part will keep me scanning. Thanks bhphoto & video.

[1x LED] After some confusion setting it up, I have used this scanner quite a bit. It does a good job when the slide has good exposure but when the slide is on the dark side or there is sharp contrast between areas, even if they would project well, it doesn't do so well. It has a good choice of pixels so if you just want to scan a slide for memory sake, you can use a lower number. If you plan on printing sometime, you can choose a higher number. I have 7,000 slides and while I may not scan them all this will get the job done--as long as it lasts.

[Download] In the midst of a 4000 plus slide scan project my Nikon scanner was troubled so I purchased the Plustek to finish the last 1500 slides of the project. B&H's quick and prompt service saved the day. The scanner arrived in a couple of days. I was suprized that the latest (9) version of LaserSoft was included. Since with the Nikon LS-5000 I was using VueScan I used VueScan to finish the project - it worked well and without incident. The main difference being the extra IR scan instead of one pass for the Digit Ice & picture capability of the Nikon. I suggest that B&H mention in their available accessaries that they carry extra film holders for the scanner which is very helpful when doing multiple scans.

[Download] My main reason for buying this scanner was to digitize 35mm and Stereo Realist slides shot on Kodachrome 64 film. My other scanner (Microtek i700) works fine for reflective material and I need the larger bed. But the slide scans were dreadful: color shifts, blown-out lights and impenetrable darks. The Perfection V600, on the other hand, coupled with Ed Hammrick's excellent VueScan software, gives me slide scans that are nearly spot on in color and contrast: details visible in shadows, almost no color shift, and subtle differences in light areas well-preserved. I can even scan my mounted Stereo Realist slides in their mounts by laying them (carefully) directly on the scanning glass. This saves lots of time otherwise needed for unmounting and remounting the images.Since my main reason for looking for a new scanner was to scan slides, this scanner completely satisfied my needs and wishes. And the price is a bargain, too.

[0.4 lb] I bought a Plustek scanner and it wasn't clear what trays came with it. It came with one negative holder and one slide holder but I thought it just came with two negative holders so I ordered two extra slide holders with the scanner thinking I would end up with two of each kind. Having two of each kind is nice when you are scanning a lot of slides because you can be loading one while the other is actually working away in the scanner. Long story short I wanted two of each and ended up with three of each. Buyer's tip: B&H actually sells a kit with one extra slide and negative holder. If you buy the scanner and you order the combo kit you will have two of each.

[0.4 lb] Having just scanned nearly 400 slides, having two slide holders helped speed the process along. Fill one holder and start the processing. Using the software that came with the Plustek 8200i Ai scanner takes an average of 11 minutes per slide. Six of those minutes is just waiting for the scanner to scan for dust. Therefore using two holders works well because as one holder's four slides are processed there is more than sufficient time to prepare the second holder. As the process continued, I could refile slides already processed and prepare for the next four. At first one may not expect using two would really speed everything up, but it does and gives time to insure the right slides are being process in an orderly smooth way. If I had only ten or twelve slides to do, I might not need the additional holder; it really helps noticeably when you have a large number to process.

[10x Wide Field] The digital camera and viewer are second to none. It is better than what is available to me in my science department. As to its limits, I can dimly make out fuzzy bacterial cells on a professionally prepared bacterial microscope slide - as one would expect for 400x without phase contrast or an oil immersion lense. The image quality for eukaryotic cells is crystal clear and outstanding. The batteries fit in the battery compartment just fine and the electric plug also works just fine. The light on the tetraview cannot penetrate a leaf but I have worked with professional scopes whose lighting is powerful enough to penetrate a leaf without further sectioning to make it thinner. Overall, it seems to be a very good product that is professional grade in most of its components and optics. The digital components are outstanding. The light is sufficient, but I think some professional scopes have a more powerful light. Some of the parts, such as the little metal arm that holds a slide in place, seem a little bit more flimsy than a professional scope. I would still rate this scope very highly and it certainly exceeded my expectations.
