[USB-C Male] At first I bought a cheaper drive that started with R because disk players have been around for a long time and I didn’t see a reason to pay more just for a fancy housing that match my Mac. However….the no name brand would always stall without ripping any songs to Apple Music. I tried it on 3 different Macs. A Mac Studio M1, MacBook Pro M2 and an older MacBook Pro with an Intel chip in it. Nope wouldn’t work on any of them. So I tried it on a Windows machine with iTunes installed and it worked with no issues. Thinking it was a bug in the Apple software I called Apple and got them involved. I spend weeks with them and sent many data files to their engineers and I still haven’t received a solution from Apple. So I found this Apple SuperDrive at B&H and figured I’d give it a try, well guess what? It works perfectly with any hiccups. I’m not sure if Apple is still making this drive so if you can still get one do it soon.

[12 VDC at 1.8 A] I bought three of these to use in my Synology NAS Disk Station 1517+ to run in Raid Configuration for the purpose of backing up my 5 office computers and my new NAS DS1722+ daily at 4:00 AM. I am using the Synology software program called, Active Backup for Business. This will allow me to do a bare metal restore if any of my backed up units have a catastrophic hard drive failure. The drives are eerily quiet, running cool and just doing their job. My prior 2011 WD Enterprise Series drives were running fine after 95,000 + hours but just did not have enough storage capacity to accommodate my current backup needs. Reasonable price and prompt damage-free shipping too.

[Aluminum] I bought this unit to allow me to move high capacity disk drives between machines for video editing. It does exactly what I wanted. Moving drives is just a matter of opening the door, sliding them in, and closing the door. Te computer recognizes the drives, and I'm back to editing, rendering, or capturing files. The only comment I have is other reviewers say the doors are hard to use. To me they feel right. Like closing a door on a high quality product with a snug fit. When you close it, you know the drive is ready for work.

[1 x 60 W] I bought this DiskStation to replace an aging Western Digital MyCloud device. I wanted a unit that supported RAID 1 disk duplication and allowed for future disk upgrades to a larger capacity. This unit nicely met those requirements. Installing the hard drives in the DiskStation was easy, I just followed the diagrams in the instructions. The instructions then gave me a link to a web address where I registered the product and downloaded the disk management system. The system installed and then formatted the hard drives. I opted to do a disk check as part of the formatting, so I let it run overnight. Next day it was finished and ready to go. I use this device to store system backups from six different PCs over my home network. I was able to modify my existing backup scripts to point to the new device. I was also able to copy files from my old device to the new one over the network. So far it has worked flawlessly. It is quiet and I like that it spins down the disks when they have been inactive for a period of time. As an added bonus, it backs up my systems faster than the old device did.

[Bus Powered] I use Acronis for disk image backups, and this unit can hold the C-Drives of all the PCs in the office! When the Ransomware hits begging for Bitcoin, or maybe DoggyCoin (!), we disconnect everything, restore the disks on the affected computers, restore the latest data backup and get back to work (Who let those bad boys in anyway?) Keep one in the office and one off site!
