External 3.5 Hard Drive Enclosure With Fan

[8 to 90%] Using the enclosure for external drive on MacBook Pro 13 unibody. Wanted the Firewire 800 speed for an external bootable drive. Found it best to follow instructions of NOT screwing the hard drive down to the heat sink(even though there were enough screws in the package to do so). As it turned out two of the drives I was using were bad so it was easy to just open the end-cap and slide the I/O board with hard drive out to replace then slide it back in. The two end-caps (one permanent the other has screws to hold it in place) hold parts inside fairly well with a 2.5 5400 rpm SATA hard drive. This case is not intended to be water-proof, shock-proof or dust-proof etc. Just an enclosure for an external hard drive best used laying flat and still. Happy with the fact that package includes USB 2 to USB 3 cable as well as Firewire 800 cable. device is capable of daisy-chaining Fireire 800 devices since it has two ports. Included is a pleather carrying case. Has a tiny on-off switch. Case is see-through clear plastic with reasonably thick construction. The blue LED when turned on is a good visual cue not to shake or move the enclosure as the hard-drive is on and spinning. Careful not to tighten side screws to hold the end-cap in place is they may strip or crack the plastic piece.

[Silver / Black] This is my third Storejet enclosure. It's an easy way to take a hard drive from a laptop destined for recycling and repurposing the drive as an external USB drive.

[6 TB] I used the WD 2TB My Passport external hard drive to back up my 2 TB Brennan B2 music library. It worked very well. I also used a powered USB hub to connect as the download speeds are very fast. One thing I ought to mention is because the download speeds are so fast, I recommend placing a fan in front of the Brennan B2 as it can get hot. In fact, before I put the fan on my B2 froze and I had to hard close to shut it off to cool it. After using the fan I had no more problems with overheating. I did not have any problems with the external hard drive overheating. It took me about 3 days to download my music library as I have used about 500 GB on my B2 and I only ran the external hard drive for about 4 hours each day to avoid overheating. The other thing I have to recommend is the compact size of the external hard dive, 3 x 4 x 3/8, as it does not take up a lot of room.

[1x 2.5"/3.5" ] This is the perfect way to keep using all those old spinning HDDs and internal SSDs you may have laying around. The USB 3.0 connection is backward-compatible with USB 2.0 and is fast enough to support any drive you may wish to install. The form factor is best suited for 3.5 HDD drives, which pop in and out like a charm. Inserting or removing 2.5 SSDs takes a bit more care and for this reason, if you only need to connect 2.5 drives, you might consider a different docking station or even a direct cable-based solution. But if you need to mount 3.5 drives, or a mix of 3.5 and 2.5 drives, then this is a great solution. I use it with both Mac and PC. Don't like the external power supply, but that's what you get with a unit in this price range. I actually bought it to replace a more expensive two-bay external unit, which had an internal power supply, but which failed within a few hours use. This unit was the best best alternative and so far, it's worked perfectly. I chose this model over the fan-cooled version because I don't like fan noise and because I only use the device for simple backups and file transfers. My drives never get hot enough to require a fan.

[0.32 lb] This enclosure works great for me, it's just what I needed, I use it as a external photo drive, with a 4TB SSD.
