Glyph Studio External Hard Drive

[ 3.5" HDD ] I am a novice when it comes to all things Mac. So I contacted B&H customer service to ask questions about the different external drives. B&H has excellent customer service! The rep said to review the Glyph external drive. So glad he pointed this out to me as it's a great product. Glyph makes it easy to set up Time Machine, which is great for a novice like me. Also, prior to this purchase, I had a LaCie external drive for my Time Machine. It was very noisy. This Glyph is very quiet. I am very pleased with this purchase.

[ 2.5" HDD ] This is my 4th Glyph hard drive. Solid, reliable, and with speeds true to spec. I purchased this for Time Machine backups, so this 5400 rpm model, compared to the more expensive 7200 rpm, is plenty fast and quiet. Glyph uses the same drives as everyone else, what you are also paying for is reliable hardware, interface, and warranty/customer service.

[8 TB] I based my choice on a previous purchase, a Glyph Studio 2 Tb external drive.  I have been very happy with it, it works fine after 4 years.  Glyph is an upstate NY company and I like being able to promote local industries.  The Studio RAID did need a call to complete the install.  The supplied instructions are a bit too simple especially if you are going to use a PC.  I got good advice from an employee and he talked me through the install.  It is not that complicated but if you dont do it on a regular basis it is easy to miss a step.  I am using the drive for photo work  and feel confident that I will get good results.

[Steel] I bought two of these to use use as a JBOD pair with one backing up the other using Data Backup software. I own two 4TB Glyph Studio and they have worked well for me for two years and counting. These two 6TB disks bring my total to four. They are whisper quiet with a well-implemented smart fan. With the auto power enabled they sleep and wake from sleep as needed. I like that the power supply is enclosed in the sturdy aluminum case and I have just the one standard power cord to worry about. I like that they have a power on/off switch. And I like that the two 6TB I just bought come with Toshiba MD04ACA with 1,400,000 MTBF quality hard drives. You can get cheaper drives that are noisier and will fail sooner, but why would you want to? They are overall solid, professional and in my experience completely reliable. I have owned dual RAID drives and, in addition to inevitable drive failures over the years, have had faulty electronics for the connection (USB, Firewire) take out BOTH internal hard drives. I prefer that each drive I own has its own USB/Firewire/esata/Thunderbolt (whatever you use) connection electronics, so if one fails it won't take out another drive paired with it. I highly recommend these Glyph Studio drives.
