Hard Drive Enclosure For Multiple Drives

[Black] I love, I repeat love SSD drives and this enclosure is my new favorite. SSD's are fantastic for a variety of reason. First, they are much less fragile than an old spinning disk hard drive. SSD are silent, which is nice. They are also so much more compact. Making the portability of these leaps and bounds better than the old hard disks. But what really separates an SSD is the speed. They are so much more faster. And with this enclosure supporting M.2, USB-C 3.2 compatible SSD drives, I was blown away with the speeds. This little guy is blazing fast. It can handle anything I throw at it with ease and makes transferring files a breeze. Saves so much time working with this drive. I bought a fast NVMe M.2 SSD to install and was off and running. The toolless set-up was very easy to do and took no time at all to install the drive into this enclosure. Comes with a little thermal pad to eliminate overheating which is fantastic. No one wants to lose speed from overheating and throttling, and this prevents that. The external heatsinks that are built into this case further prevent overheating making sure the drive runs optimally at all times. I've used it for a couple 4k editing projects so far and have noticed no slow downs at all. It cruises along handling everything effortlessly. And it is so small and convenient, it is really fantastic. I also like that they give you a USB c cable too. You can never have too many of those. [USB-C Male] Works as described. Great alternative to a traditional hard drive enclosure. I have many bare hard drives all formatted in raid with years worth of photo and video backups. This dock makes it easy to pull the drives off the shelf, plug them into the dock and get to work.

[AC Input] An easy, convenient solution if you need to access multiple hard drives. Hot swap one drive at a time. Fast and reliable.

[Bus Powered] Like most other OWC products, this one is built to last - sturdy aluminum, four screws for each drive to hold it in place etc. My computer has a full-power USB 3.1 connector so I don't use the AC adaptor that came with enclosure and it works just fine. This enclosure is on the pricey side but well worth the money. At first, I had a bit of a struggle to get the enclosure recognize my drives. I use it in the mirror mode and I had two drives of the same capacity but different models. If you are going to buy new drives - heed the advise OWC gives in the user manual and buy two *identical* ones, it will make your life easier. After some fumbling and switching the drive slots, it finally recognized them and began rebuilding the RAID, which took me a full day. Once it finished, it is pretty much connect and forget - it just works. Some people complained about the write speeds - I use this as a backup and my drives are spindle ones (not SSD) so depending on whether I copy a lot of small files or a few large ones, I can get sustained write speed anywhere from 1MB/s (worst case, lots of small files) to 6-10 MB/s average or sometimes much better. On the balance, I find it adequate for a USB RAID drive, my other RAIDs performed much worse.

[110 TB] Looking for more storage and data protection/reliability of a more advanced RAID and this enclosure fit the bill. With good drives at low prices, and the flexibility this enclosure allows (including easy swap of drives) this is now my main image drive (yes, with nightly backups and cloud storage, just in case) and I can use the swappable drive features to put projects - video in particular - on different drives as needed. Add in B&H free shipping (next day since I'm in Philly) and it's a great combination.

[LTO-8, LTO-9] The drive enclosure is great for DVD drives less than 7 inches. I would higly recomend it to anyone needing a high quality DVD drive enclosure.

[2.485 lb] I bought this enclosure to house two drives on a small shelf on the back of my iMac's stand. Right now it holds one SSD for working files, and a spinning drive for a nightly clone of the internal disk. It works perfectly with these mixed drives set to individual mode (no RAID). May repurpose this unit down the road with striped SSDs. Individual indicator/activity LEDs for each drive are very bright (fyi). I have a few of the single bay version of these enclosures for various uses and love them. This one is just as reliable, solidly built, and easy to swap drives as the smaller ones.

[1 GB DDR3] I've love B&H. The SSD drives and enclosures arrived in less than 24 hours after ordering! I am temporarily using this (I hope) on a 2011 Mac mini while waiting on the rumored 2018 model. I ordered 4 Samsung 860 Evo 2TB drives to replace a Lacie external drive with 2 3TB spinning drives in a RAID 1 enclosure. Setup of the new enclosure was quick since the drive enclosures easily accept 2.5" drives. Software setup and volume setup was also very easy. Black Magic shows my disk speeds using Thunderbolt 1 as: Write: 397 MB/s Read 510 MB/s. I moved over 1 TB of data from my old RAID enclosure in about 65 minutes. I hope to be able to take advantage of Thunderbolt 3 later this year. If I have one wish for the enclosure is that OWC had a similar enclosure for 2.5 inch drives so that it would be much smaller. Overall I am very happy with it!
