[Square] I have two camera's and 2 desks for my weekly livestream. Previously I had a mini-shotgun mic from RODE, (love it also by the way) and was trying to use this as my main mic. It was fine at the one desk, but when I switch to sky top down camera on the other desk, the sound would be terrible due to the nature of the shotgun mic. I now have this Wave 3 set in the middle of my two desks, and because it's a dynamic Mic, it picks up both area's without having to move the mic. This is a perfect solution for me and I am thrilled with it!!!

[Supercardioid] Comes with everything you need in a shotgun mic. Wasn't sure if it would attach to my 1.8mm mini jack on my canon t3i, but it came with the adapter cable. Some of the components are fairly cheaply made (wind muff, case), but the price is awesome for the fact that everything is there. Plenty of foam inside the case to keep it all safe, even a little slot for a spare AA battery. I'll be able to easily wire this on to my DSLR or boom pole with little effort.

[Mono] I highly recommend this mini shotgun mic to anyone looking for a compact setup with good sound and value for money. I use it both atop my camera while recording to capture the sound of subjects in the environment, as well as on a mini tripod for voice chats. It works best when your subject is close to the mic, within about 1 metre.

[Cardioid] This is the first mic I have bought to record sound for social media. Before buying I read reviews of external mics and watched online demos on how to use one. Since I set my PC sound controls correctly for a USB mic, the V-Mic D4 Mini has worked well. After throwing together a quick voice box for a shotgun mic, the small amount of ambient noise was easy to remove. I like the D4 Mini's sound clarity for both music and voice. The suggested recording range in dB in Audacity for an external mic obtains a full sound from the D4 Mini without distortion from overdriving the signal. Overall, the sensitivity of the D4 Mini means the quality of recorded sound depends on the acoustic treatment for this shotgun mic's cardiod pickup pattern. The included dead cat does help in isolating desired sound. The TRS to TRRS dongles plug solidly into the mic's output jack and a TRRS cable. As a newbie to sound recording it took me a while to figure out how everything works. But now that I have succeeded in recording clear, crisp sound, I am happy with this Deity mic.

[Phantom Power] Great shotgun microphone. Clean sound at an affordable price. I've shot two projects on it so far and I am very happy with it. I used this for film projects not music so I can only speak on dialogue recording right now. The low cut filter worked great and helped reduce unwanted sound before post production. The review posted on 5/19/2015 mentions a hiss when plugged into a dslr. That hiss is due to the camera's weak pre amp. It's not a fault of the mic. Spend a few bucks and get a decent preamp. You won't find a dslrs with built in preamps good enough to handle a quality mic. The primary function of a dslr is photography and that's where manufacturers spend their dollars, not on sound recording.

[Polar Pattern] This is an amazing microphone, it works well with my Zoom H5. Picks up great audio as a shotgun mic and as well as a left and right channel and you can combine them as well to have a totally different turnout. Best purchase I've made.

[Black] I added a second microphone to my home voiceover studio, but needed to mount the new mic on the same end of the desk as the current mic (and the new mic was a Senn 460 shotgun) so the riser made it easier to have two mic booms mounted next to each other, and also put the shotgun mic up in the air more to angle down toward me. I pre-drilled the wood desk top, mounted the base with four good screws, and it was ready to go.

[Solid-State] I probably own too many microphones, and was looking for the one that was just right. A couple of years ago, I purchased an AT8035 shotgun mic and it is fantastic, but also 14 inches long. I had to buy a new gear bag to accommodate its length. At the time, I also considered the AT897. Based upon the quality of the 8035, I decided to buy the 897 also, and it is a great shotgun mic--just right. It has become my go-to microphone for most applications, which include recording face-to-face interviews and ambient sound. The feature that attracted me to both of these mics is their internal power source--a single AA battery. This means not having to use phantom power from the recorder (saving its power) or when I put it on top of my Canon 5D MkII for video, which is very rare usage on my part. The 5D does not provide phantom power. If you are looking to buy just one microphone, the AT897 is a very good all-purpose audio journalist's mic.
