[Cage] Not only does it extend the handle by a finger or two (which is so clutch for better grip), it has a variety of mounting points and a NATO rail option. I use the NATO rail and attach the KB nato rail cine arm, to attach my monitor - so easy and seamless to assemble and disassemble. I chose the KB version over the smallrig b/c KB is one piece vs the smallrig has the same overall design but is two pieces. Less is more ;)

Easy grip, and even lets you move it while it is tightened without stripping it out. And its about time somebody actually put a decent sized counterweight on the end of the stand. I use it live playing in cover bands.

The one place where a lot of the other mic stand companies fall short if in the clutch mechanism for raising and lowering the mic stand. This has the solid, threaded clutch that is on all the Atlas stands I have ever owned, going back to the 1970s. I added a 12 black gooseneck and a short boom stand as options for added versatility to my boom stand---both of which I highly suggest. If you are seeking a short mic stand that will last throughout your career and one that has added flexibility, look to the Atlas DMS7E.

[Screw-Knob] I bought this because I needed a mic stand i could really lean on without it slipping and it does this well. You can crank down the clutch and it's not going to move without some serious weight/force on it. The clutch is strong, has a good tactile grip for you to hold on to, and is servicable. Lastly, it has a feature that doesn't allow the mic to just drop if you loosen the clutch. it will slowly lower as to not damage your fancy mic (or make a horible sound throgh the PA.
