[58 mm (Front)] Youd think for the price this would have some flaws. At f.1/4 its pretty sharp at f.2 its razor sharp. I did not look at the outer edges of the frames as Im concerned with my subject. Good buy for the price. 5 |

[8.1" (205 mm)] I already own a nice 24mm 1.4 so this lens has got some heavy lifting to do to raise my interest. And it has done just that. Now it would be unfair to say it is light years ahead of the Nikon 24mm 1.4G ED lens that I have been using. Truth is.....it just does it ALL very well. Well resolved without being scratchy sharp. Holds the corners well. No CA that I can find and creamy (almost misty) background to help throw that focused subject right in your lap. Honest colors and built like a bloody TANK!!!. So yeah.... a worthy contender at around half the price of the other lenses it beating. You won't be disappointed. Rocks well on my RS3 Pro Gimbal too. Thank you B&H for overnighting it to my shoot and making Christmas happen in August :0) 5 |

[24mm] I bought both the AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.4G ED and the AF-S Nikkor 28mm f/1.4E ED last week from B&H. Both are really great! Images captured by my Nikon D850 with this 24mm are slightly soft at f/1.4 when viewed fully zoomed in to 100% (1 to 1) on my 27” iMac. Zoomed out slightly from 100%, the f/1.4 images look great. Applying a little sharpening in Capture One Pro on images taken at f/1.4 results in final images being indistinguishable when viewed at 100% from those captured at f/4 to f/8 without sharpening. Very slight softening starts coming in again at f/11 when viewed at 100%. However, the AF-S Nikkor 28mm f/1.4E ED is razor sharp even wide open at f/1.4 - this 28mm lens is absolutely outstanding! 5 |

[28mm] This lens is fantastic-sharp at 1.4 and beautiful throughout the range. I have the 24mm 1.4 Nikkor which, to me, is a tad soft at 1.4 and requires stopping down to about 2.8 for acceptable performance. Not the case with this lens, however, it is utterly fantastic from 1.4 on. This lens is destined to be a classic. I pair it with my Nikkor 105 E 1.4 and can conquer the world with this combo! 5 |

The attached photos were taken hand held at f/1.4. 5 |

[Full-Frame] I am a wide angle fanatic. I love to layer my photos and frame subjects through busy foreground elements. So when I was looking for a new wide lens, it was between this one or the 14-24mm 2.8. It took me a while to decide, but I finally pulled the trigger on this one and do not regret it a single bit (then again I might have said the same thing about the 14-24 if I had went with it). Either way, this lens is incredible. It is sharp wide open, handles back lit situations very well and the bokeh is outstanding (if you are standing close to your subject). Because it is such a wide lens, the large 1.4 aperture is more useful for shooting in low light situations than it is for bokeh. But when you are standing close enough to your subject and shooting wide open, the bokeh is incredibly smooth and creamy. I started out shooting documentary and photojournalism work, which is why I became hooked on wide angle lenses. However, I am currently in the middle of starting a wedding photography business, so I wanted to switch from a wide-angle 2.8 zoom to a wide-angle 1.4 prime lens. This was a big factor in me choosing this 24mm over the 14-24. Anyways, this is an incredible lens, and if you love wide angle photos and want a prime lens (and if you shoot Nikon, obviously) then this is pretty much the only option you should consider. Sigma will probably release a 24mm 1.4 Art lens sometime in the near-ish future, and it will probably be a pretty awesome lens too. But Sigma will never be Nikon. So, to end this rambling, if you love shooting wide angles, get it. I promise you will love it and will not have buyer's remorse. If you think you might like wide angles but aren't sure, try renting this lens first before dropping so much money. And if you prefer shooting a longer focal length but need a wide lens primarily for scene setters, invest the money into a lens of your prefered focal length and purchase a cheaper wide, such as the 20mm 2.8. 5 |
