[f/22] I use this lens on my Nikon Df. It's good for everything except what might call for a speciality lens, ie Micro/Macro and telephoto.

[Metal] Unfortunately I first purchased the simpler version of this adapter from Metabones first. This model is identical looking to the other. Both are well made with metal male and female mounts, as well as all metal construction. The fit-up on both and at each end is snug and confidence inspiring. But this unit is the one to get as it allows the use of newer lenses which do not have f-stop rings as well as lenses that have f-stop rings. This model has an f-stop mechanism built in, allowing the f-stop to be changed via a numbered click-stop system. Without this additional functionality lenses without f-stop rings can be mounted but they will constantly be fully stopped down, making them essentially useless. For a bit more money the Metabones Nikon G Lens to Micro Four Thirds Lens Mount Adapter is a better choice than the less expensive Metabones Nikon F Lens to Micro Four Thirds Camera T Adapter II, because then more Nikon lenses will work with you M4/3 camea.

[0.23 lb] Does a nice job on my Nikon 200mm f4 micro lens hood. Due to the design I'm able to keep the hood on and protect the lens at the same time. Fits very well.

[Glass] Protects a Nikon 105mm Micro lens and was worth every penny! These filters are simply the best and I have left Tiffen behind as Heliopan has proven to me to be the best filters in every way.

[52 mm] I have used slide films for over four decades and one can imagine how many slides I will have!? I have been wanting to copy some of the important slides and tried copying and scanning with no satisfied results. After a serious hunt, I came across this Nikon Slide Copying attachment ES1. But, the problem with it is that it has been designed exclusively for use with Micro Nikkor AF 2.8/60mm D lens or with Micro Nikkor AF2.8/55mm with three extension tubes to make 1:1 magnification. Since, I already have Micro Nikkor AFS 2.8/105mm ED VR lens, I did not want to invest in another macro lens. So, I started experimenting by copying the slides in a crude manner and found out that I can copy the 35mm slides with my 105mm lens with certain amount of extension in front of the lens! So, I ventured for Nikon ES1 and BR 5 ring. That wasn't sufficient and I still had to push the magnification little farther away from the lens. So, I bought a cheap non auto Chinese extension tube and Nikon's BR 2A reverse ring and BR 3 mount adapter ring. With this array of close up attachments, I was able to copy my 35mm slides full frame and the results are far better than any scanning method with a full frame sensor as a must! I used the following set up for copying the 35mm slides :- 1. Nikon D 800 body 2. Micro Nikkor AFS 2.8/105mm ED VR lens attached to the body 3. Nikon BR 5 attached to the front of the l05mm lens (62mm thread) 4. Nikon BR 2A attached to the Nikon BR 5 (52mm thread) 5. Cheap Non Auto Chinese Extension Tube set ( one model comes with screw thread adjustment in between ) attached to the bayonet mount of the BR 2A mount 6. Nikon BR 3 is attached the bayonet mount of the Extension Tube 7. Nikon ES 1 is finally attached to the 52mm screw thread of BR3 ring. 8. With this set up, pull or push the ES 1s inner extension tube to set the frame and focusing distance 9. Use Matrix metering, Aperture Priority with F8 at ISO 100 in day light and the camera mounted on a tripod.

[1:2] I wanted to toss in this review before Nikon discontinued this great lens. If you're thinking about this lens and manual focus doesn't frighten, this is a great overall workhorse of a prime lens. The two Nikon micro 60mm AF lenses seem poised to replace this lens. I haven't used either of these AF lens, but they would have to be spectacular indeed to match the 55mm AI-s lens. I've used this lens for around 30 years on an FE2, F3, F5, D300, and D700. Perhaps thousands of images from the lens, film or digital, used either as a micro or basic prime have been excellent in terms of edge to edge sharpness and clarity. At present, I prefer using the D300 for micro with this lens primarily for the camera's crop factor. Stopping down to f/11 has given me optimum DOF results overall and minimal diffraction with this lens; however the micro bokeh at f/2.8, foreground and background, is milky smooth, very pleasing to the eye, and really pops up the focus point. I also purchased a PK-13 extender with this lens which is required to shoot micro at 1:1. However, it is difficult to impossible to obtain satisfactory 1:1 images without using a focusing rail and some very careful setup with the PK-13 even when stopped down to the lens minimum f/32. Stopped down this tight does lead to diffraction issues and some necessary tradeoffs when shooting without focusing rails. These is to be expected for any exposures requiring precise distances for predefined subject to image ratios combined with the very shallow DOF of micro photography. Focusing is easy even though I always have used matte screens. Viewfinder brightness has become an important issue for me as I've gotten older and my vision has kept pace with that circumstance. It's been noted that many older photographers' careers have been kept alive by AF lenses. But, at f/2.8, the viewfinder image with this lens is sufficiently bright for focusing even under relatively low light conditions.

[Nikon Z] I use the Kenko Auto Extension Tube mostly with my Nikon 105mm Micro lens. Unlike another product I bought these extension tubes allow me to use my lenses. They are also easy to align with lens as well as the camera body.
