[Shotgun] While I prefer how the Rode Video Mic Pro sounds, its drawback is relying on often sub-par camera mic pre-amps. Not so, with the LensHopper VP83F. Plus, its not tied to your camera, so you can close mic your subject with a boom. And if you're using it for run and gun attached to the cold shoe of your camera, you get the added bonus of having an in-camera back up recording via the mic out. I mostly use it for run and gun, but it has also saved my bacon more than once, when a subject's movements made the lav recording unusable.

[Gold] I purchased the Rode video micro because of the attractive price, Rode brand name, and the fact I use a mirrorless camera which is small in form, so the video micro's size is perfect. I've recently started filming at conventions, vlog style, so the built in camera Mic, as I found out the hard way, is terrible at capturing anything other than the roaring hiss of thousands of attendees. I am NOT disappointed with this purchase. The Rode video micro does an excellent job at capturing directional audio and blocking out atmospheric noise. Dialogue directly in front of the camera is nice and clear while limiting the sound from behind. No additional battery or on switch means I don't have to worry about forgetting to turn the Mic on. I can't say I noticed any excessive battery drain from my camera battery that would lead me to believe the Mic is drawing its fair share of power. For the price tag and size Rode put a lot in a small package. And I'm thankful for their effort. I am looking forward to finding out how Rode's higher end mics will further improve my content.

[0.04 lb] My Panasonic GX8 camera has a 2.5mm mic hole. My Rode Videomicro has a 3.5mm hole. I've had two cheap adapters fail. This rare combination of connectors and coiled cord fixes everything!

[Plastic] I have a similar size Rode mic that I love but the last time shooting video with my camera that does not permit me to monitor audio while shooting I noticed after-the-fact that the mic was rubbing up against the performers shirt and I recorded horrible scratching noises forcing me to reshoot my scene. This mic has a headphone jack which allows one to listen to what is being sent to the camera. The quality of the audio was very good and I am delighted with my purchase.
