Softbox For Lighting

[7.2 lb] This Octabox is great for lighting a small group in the studio. The included 'free' grid is great for keeping light where I want it. I find this 84 Softbox reasonable to assemble and disassemble and it is made of sturdy materials. Please notice that you must purchase a speed ring for this item separately. Also, if you are planning on using this outdoors, make sure to have a sturdy light stand with a lot of extra weights... It loves to twist and fly in the wind without it. Seriously, this softbox will make you pay if you forget to tighten one of the stands extension clamps. One thing I have found is that when using this as an outdoor key light for overcast days or shade pictures, I can actually get away with my 580 ex speedlight as the strobe for this when I am shooting small groups at around f3.5... I had wondered about this before I bought it, so I thought I would share my findings! Finally, please remember the most challenging part of using this softbox is the mounting and dismounting to from the strobe head. Having a second person to assist you, greatly reduces the chances of breaking a bulb.

This was my introduction to proper light modifiers. Coupled with a Canon 580 EXII this softbox provides nice even lighting in a small and durable package. Chimera even sells a kit so that you can use two speedlights. The biggest drawback is really the speed ring because it means that while being very portable it takes more time to set up but the trade-off is a really secure and study product. A great investment and a good (and bad) way to be bitten by the lighting bug.
