[1.855 lb] This is my first review I have ever written (buying computers sine the 1970's), and only because this CalDigit Element is so good I was compelled to write. I have a new Dell XPS 15 inch 9530. I had options of purchasing the Dell WD22TB4 hub (made for this laptop) or getting the CalDigit. After doing a lot of research I choose the CalDigit because of the vast amount of thunderbolt ports. My Dell laptop had some issues like 4 motherboard replacements, 3 speaker replacements, one screen replacement and one keyboard (ALL IN THE FIRST YEAR). I was hesitant to buy another Dell product. I have my OEM Dell power adapter plugged into the USB-C (right side) to power the laptop because the CalDigit only delivers 60 watts which is no problem. The laptop understands which power to use. What do I gain from this decision. I have 3 empty Thunderbolt 4 ports on the CalDigit and one Thunderbolt 4 port on the laptop free (the other TB4 is used to connect the CalDigit). So I end up with: 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports free 4 USB - A (10 gb) available I have the best of both types of ports. I rather make my own decision as to what the port does instead of a hub having only a set determined specific device ports. This unit out performs any hub I have ever had. In fact the CalDigit's construction is amazingly well built and looks good. 5 |

[Lithium-Ion] I primarily use this to charge my dell laptop that uses a 90W USB-C, but I appreciate how it can charge any of the USB devices that I haul around. I was most impressed by the informative display that shows the amount and direction of energy flow through the ports. I also like the texture of the exterior material. 5 |

[Yes] I bought this cable to connect my Surface Pro (2017) tablet to my 30 Dell U3011 UltraSharp monitor. It works perfectly with no issues whatsoever. I am able to mirror my tablet, extend the tablet onto the Dell monitor, or use the Dell monitor as the sole display and disable the tablet display... all 3 options work without issue. If I connect the Dell monitor's USB cable to the Surface USB port, I can even use the monitor's USB ports and SD Card reader! 5 |

[Aluminum] The fact that this is the second WD19TB I buy shows that I really like this dock. (As I am working in 2 places, I wanted to have it in both!). Pros and cons: + One (tiny) USB-C plug, everything taken care of: USB devices, network, multiple monitors and even charging the device. + Very nice integration into Dell notebooks: No need to open the device. Simply push the button - or even use the plug event to power on the notebook. Can't be more convenient than that? + No Fan (like the old WD16TB dock had) + Works with all TB-able notebooks I used so far (MacBook, Asus, Dell, ..) - To get the full power output from the dock, you have to use a Dell notebook (E.g. gamer notebooks from other manufacturers might not be able to charge and be used in full power mode, even though the power brick should have plenty of power to do it - note that this is due to the USB-C spec, there was recently an addendum which might change that going forwards). - It is on the pricy side - If driving a high res monitor (2560x1440 and above) using an HDMI cable, you might get only 50Hz out of it and using many notebooks you will get a flickering (display on/off) over time. You should really use a DP cable. - It has only one USB plug at the front - which is a bit on the low side considering that you might plug in mouse and keyboard. Yes, there are more plugs on the back side, but it is finnicky to get to them once set up. - Be aware that the notebook has to be fairly close to the dock as the cable is not easy to be bend, and the outlet location is fixed (on both sides). 5 |
